LabStockPro

Students design a smart inventory management sheet for lab consumables by analyzing the materials needed for a medical or chemical test, forecasting monthly demand, and simulating stock levels to calculate reorder quantities.

In this data-driven STEAM project, students become lab operations analysts, tasked with designing an inventory management tool tailored for medical or chemical labs. Their journey begins by selecting a specific test—such as blood typing, glucose analysis, or pH titration—that requires a range of consumables. They research and list all items involved, including the quantities required per test. Using this data, students create a functional spreadsheet model (e.g., in Excel) that calculates the expected monthly demand based on lab capacity and compares it with the current stock levels. The sheet will automatically determine the quantity that needs to be reordered, making it a valuable planning tool. Students run simulated inventory scenarios to validate their model by adjusting in-hand quantities and projected demand. Through this process, they develop core skills in supply chain logic, spreadsheet modeling, and practical data analysis—all within a real-world healthcare or laboratory context. This project fosters critical thinking, organization, and applied mathematics.
