Students explore and analyze smart city initiatives like NEOM’s The Line, then design and build a scaled model of a futuristic city, complete with a digital promotion video showcasing their vision of next-generation smart and sustainable city.
Students explore groundbreaking smart city concepts by studying global initiatives like NEOM’s The Line in this forward-looking urban planning project. They begin by analyzing the project’s visionary design, sustainability goals, and cutting-edge technologies, such as vertical urban planning, zero-carbon mobility, and AI-integrated infrastructure. Students then translate their understanding into a creative city layout, designing a linear community pattern that reflects the future of urban living. Using their design, they build a scaled mock-up of their smart city using sustainable or recycled materials and highlight key zones like residential, green spaces, energy hubs, and transport systems. To present their vision, students produce a promotional video explaining their design, innovative features, and societal impact. This immersive STEAM project encourages deep research, critical thinking, design thinking, and creativity—bridging architecture, technology, and environmental planning to reimagine how cities can function in the future.
