Students explore the art and science of candle-making using industrial clay and silicone mold techniques. They explore solidification, shrinkage, and density, with an optional business module for calculating costs and setting prices.
In this creative project, students dive into the world of candle production using ProjoTech’s specialized kit (CandleArt). They begin by shaping a custom candle design using an industrial-grade clay, learning how form, texture, and creativity influence mold quality. This clay pattern is then used to create a silicone rubber mold, introducing students to the concept of molding in production. Once the mold is ready, students pour in the melted wax, observe its cooling and solidification process, and track changes such as shrinkage and surface quality. They conduct density and shrinkage calculations to reinforce scientific principles. As an optional extension into entrepreneurship, students will analyze raw material costs, calculate total production expenses, and propose a fair selling price for their candles. This hands-on project integrates design thinking, basic manufacturing principles, material science, and business fundamentals, giving learners a well-rounded STEAM experience with both artistic and analytical depth
