Students research a dangerous virus and its effects on the human body, then design accurate and engaging graphics, including scaled virus illustrations, using digital tools to educate the public with clarity and impact.
In this interdisciplinary project, students become medical illustrators and visual storytellers. They begin by selecting a virus that causes a dangerous disease, such as Zika, Influenza, or SARS-CoV-2. After thoroughly researching how the virus enters the body, spreads, and affects specific systems, students explore its symptoms, structure, and behavior. A key part of the project is creating a scientifically accurate illustration of the virus, scaled proportionally using data from medical research to represent its size, shape, and surface features. Students develop a series of modern, simplified, and informative visual graphics using tools like Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Figma, or 3D modeling software. These visuals explain medical concepts in a way that is attractive, accessible, and easy for the general public to understand. The project blends anatomy, virology, digital design, and public health messaging, empowering students to transform complex biological data into meaningful education that raises awareness and fosters informed communities.
