Students design and 3D print chocolate patterns, create food-safe molds, and produce custom chocolates. They also create a simple business plan to calculate production costs and set a profitable selling price.
In this deliciously creative STEAM project, students dive into the complete design-to-production cycle of homemade chocolate making. They start by designing a custom chocolate shape using 3D modeling software at a 1:1 scale and 3D printing the pattern. This printed pattern becomes the base for creating a food-grade silicone rubber mold using materials provided in ProjoTech’s special kit (ChocoForm). Once the mold sets, students melt chocolate and cast it into their custom mold, producing beautifully formed edible creations. In the final phase, students shift gears to entrepreneurship—calculating production costs, evaluating materials, estimating labor, and defining a selling price to ensure profitability. They create a simple business plan, simulating how an authentic artisanal chocolate brand would operate. This project blends design, manufacturing, culinary arts, and business, giving students hands-on experience in product development and the sweet side of innovation.
